A Friend in Need is a Friend Indeed...

This is an example of a "Back End Deal" and the "Points" that only stars and execs can negotiate, not cameramen and stagehands as the MPAA claims(see earlier post): Matt LeBlanc, star of TV's successful "Friends" sitcom (star of the unfunny "comedies" Ed and All The Queen's Men , and the boring space "adventure" film Lost in Space ) has agreed to appear in a "Friends" spinoff called "Joey".In exchange for continuing to portray loveable Joey Tribbiani, the studio has agreed to give LeBlanc a substantial percentage of the show's profits, plus a two-film deal (which LeBlanc no doubt welcomes as another chance to redeem his film "career"). Which spinoff path will "Joey" take? Will it go the way of "AfterM.A.S.H" and "Three's A Crowd", disappearing into the pop-culture Apocrypha? Or will it languish for 10 grueling years and alienate all but the most terminally bore-proof fans of the original show, like "Frasier"? We'll just have to not tune in to find out...

This Film is Rated "ARRRR!!"

In a desperate yet bizzare move to combat digital piracy of movies, the MPAA today begins showing Anti-Piracy Public Service Announcements before each film, adding to the ever-increasing ordeal of ads and admonishments audiences must endure before their feature presentations start. These PSA's make the argument that digital piracy takes food out of the mouths of industry workers who are not millionaire stars or studio execs- stuntmen, make-up artists, grips, and animators, for example. Apparently the stuntmen and grips have "points" ( percentage of the film's gross profit) negotiated into their contracts now... And all the computer animators at ILM are going to be out on the street wearing signs reading "Will Rotoscope for Food" because the studios can't afford to pay them anymore... It's funny to see MPAA boss Jack Valenti (who hasn't paid money to see a movie in 30 years, and sees them before everyone else) so awkwardly trying to shame the moviegoing public into not downloading free movies, and most especially not before they are released in theatres...

God Strikes Disney Animal Dead

Apparently an innocent Disney animal was minding its own business when from out of nowhere, God struck it dead with a powerful blast of highly charged plasma hotter than the Sun, emanating from Heaven. I suspect this is a warning shot over Disney's bow. Very old testament. I predict frogs and locusts next.
